Medium Density Fiberboard – MDF
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into fine wood fibers. These fibers are combined with wax and resin binders and compressed under high temperature and pressure to form dense, smooth boards. The manufacturing process creates a uniform structure without natural wood grain, knots, or cracks.
MDF is known for its smooth surface and consistent density, making it ideal for painting, laminating, veneering, and CNC carving. Because of its fine composition, it allows precise cutting and detailed design work. It is widely used in furniture manufacturing, cabinets, wardrobes, decorative panels, wall paneling, and interior design projects.
MDF is available in different grades, including standard MDF for general interior use, moisture-resistant MDF for humid areas, and fire-retardant MDF for improved safety. Thickness typically ranges from 3mm to 25mm or more, depending on the application.
Although MDF is cost-effective and easy to work with, it is heavier than plywood and can absorb water if not properly sealed. Therefore, it is mainly recommended for indoor applications unless treated for moisture resistance. Overall, MDF is valued for its affordability, smooth finish, and excellent machinability.
Description
MDF
Perfect Surface for Modern Interiors.
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is an engineered wood board made from compressed wood fibers and resin. It has a smooth, uniform surface that is ideal for painting, laminating, and CNC cutting. MDF is widely used in furniture, cabinets, and interior decorative applications.
TYPES OF MDF
MDF is available in different types based on application needs. Standard MDF is used for general furniture, while moisture-resistant MDF is suitable for humid areas. Fire-retardant and high-density MDF provide added safety and strength for commercial and heavy-duty uses.
Standard MDF
Basic moisture resistance
Cost-effective option
MR MDF
Moisture-resistant grade
Better durability than standard
FR MDF
Enhanced safety for commercial use
High resistance to fire spread
TYPES OF MDF
MDF is available in different types to suit various application needs. Standard MDF is used for general interior furniture and decorative work. Moisture-Resistant MDF is designed to perform better in humid conditions such as kitchens and bathrooms. Fire-Retardant MDF provides enhanced fire resistance for commercial and public spaces. High-Density MDF offers greater strength and durability for heavy-duty applications like flooring and doors.
Smooth Surface Finish
Provides an even surface ideal for painting and laminating.
Uniform Density
Consistent structure without natural wood grains or knots.
Easy Machining
Suitable for cutting, drilling, and detailed CNC carving.
Cost-Effective Material
Affordable compared to solid wood and some alternatives.
Good Dimensional Stability
Less expansion and contraction under normal indoor conditions.
Versatile Applications
Used in furniture, cabinets, panels, and interior décor.
